IA Cooperative Research Unit Mission

The Cooperative Research Units (CRU) Program provides federal agencies the opportunity to access fish and wildlife expertise available at 40 Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Units (Units) and cooperating faculty at host universities. Federal agencies issue intra and inter agency agreements to US Geological Survey (USGS) for specific projects and informational needs. The CRU Headquarters office and USGS Contracting then issue a Research Work Order to a Unit and its host university, to conduct the work specified for the agreed upon funding. Some financial advantages of Research Work Orders are that funds can carry over fiscal years and that multi-year projects can be incrementally funded.
