Position Title:  Ph.D. assistantship in fisheries ecology

Agency/Location:  Iowa State University, Dept. of Natural Resource Ecology and Management, Ames, IA (https://www.nrem.iastate.edu/)

Responsibilities:  Research will focus on ability of physical barriers to mitigate escapement of walleye and muskellunge from Iowa reservoirs.  Project will involve mark-recapture, telemetry and laboratory experiments.  The student will supervise field technicians, maintain quality control of data collection, analysis, archiving, writing annual progress reports and other routine duties as needed. Completion of the project will serve as partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Ph.D. degree from Iowa State University. Other requirements include satisfactory completion of coursework and submission of manuscripts for publication.

Qualifications:  M.S. degree in fisheries ecology and management, ecology, environmental science, or related field.  Experience with PIT tag antennas and telemetry is beneficial but not required. Candidates with demonstrated written and oral communication, analytical skills, and strong academic credentials are preferred. Applicant must be highly motivated, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and be physically capable and willing to work long hours in demanding outdoor conditions

Salary/Benefits:  ~$22,000/year, benefits and full tuition waiver

Anticipated start date: Application review will begin January 1, 2016.  Position starts summer 2016.
